Mir-Naqibi

Mir-Naqibi, Sayyid Muhammad (1921-2003)

Violin instrumentalist and instructor, composer, and director of the Golha programs following the directorship of Davud Pirniya and before the period of Hushang Ibtihaj. He studied with Abu’l-Hasan Saba and performed in the orchestra of the National Music Society from 1944 onwards. He worked as a violin teacher, served as the assistant principal of the National Conservatory of Music from 1949 to 1964 and also performed in different radio orchestras. Like his directorship of the Golha programmes (following the brilliant directorship of Davud Pirniya), today his skills as a violinist are not remembered as anything extraordinary. On the other hand, in a number of his melodic performances can be found fine phrases that are still appreciated, and at times performed, by musicians today. He ceased his musical activities from 1980 onwards and owing to blindness and other complications. Some of his compositions have been released on a series of cassette tapes produced by Kurush Matin.
