‏Nur Ali Burumand

Burumand, Nur ‘Ali (1906-1977)

Instrumentalist specializing in playing the setar and the tar, and acquainted with a number of other Persian classical instruments, who was also an expert in the radif or repertoire of Persian classical music. Owing to professional and family reasons he did not perform on any of the Golha programmes. However, he was specifically consulted about those Golha programmes that were produced under the directorship of Davud Pirnia and Ruhu’llah Khaliqi (1955-1966) regarding selection of earlier masters’ compositions and the style of performance of these pieces. Regarding those Golha programmes produced under the directorship of Hushang Ibtihaj, there was one programme (Golha-yi taza 160)—performed by the Shayda Ensemble (including Burumand’s young students)—that he supervised, in which they performed one of his fast-tempo compositions (ring).
