Parvin Riyazi

Riyazi, Parvin (b. 1934), daughter of Mu’tamid. Born in Yazd, she received her primary and secondary education in her hometown. She married Murtaza Riyazi and lived with her husband in Qum for a few years. After the heart failure and demise of her husband, Dr. Riyazi, she left Qum. Parwin showed her poetical talent in her childhood when she wrote children’s rhymes at primary school and read her poetry to her classmates. Her talent flourished in her high school years and her compositions gained further vigor by studying the divans of her predecessors. She collected her poetry. Besides her poetical talent, she is acquainted with handiwork. Mainly influenced by Sa’di and Hafiz, from among earlier poets, she was more interested in composing ghazals in which she followed ‘Iraqi. She also exhibited mastery in composing dubaytis. Her divan of poetry exceeds 3,000 couplets. The following lines are hers:

How sweet was the day when in the willow shade,

By the brook I was with my beloved.

We sang love songs from memory,

Turning away from any other talk.
