Huzni Isfahani

Huzni Isfahani, Mawlana Taqi al-Din (fl. 16th century), a poet with nom de plume Huzni and a scholar well-known in his times. He was well-versed in intellectual and narrational sciences and taught for years in Isfahan. When studying and teaching, he composed poetry. Owing to his hard life in Isfahan, he departed for India and became a companion of Qutb Shah in Golkanda. He was a contemporary of Taqi Kashi. He died in Rasulabad, Lahore. The following couplets are by him:

Where wast thou last night when the friends’ hearts were on fire?

Instead of sleep, there were shreds of diamond in mine eyes.

The heart was there, I know not how it was,

Distraught Huzni was here, so restless.
