Salim Turkaman

Salim Turkaman. Mahmud Beyg was a notable Turcoman, a peaceful man of good disposition. He was famous for his poetry and was a poet of vigor in composing mathnawis. He composed a mathnawi on the model of Yusuf u Zulaykha and indeed, if he had not selected the title, the poetical composition would not have been famous. He reportedly composed a mathnawi on the model of Nizami’s Khamsa. The following couplets have been extracted from his Yusuf u Zulaykha:

At times, from the stature of good disposition,

I plant a young tree in the garden of soul;

Its roots grow in my bones,

The veins of my soul elegantly twist around it.
