Sharqi

Sharqi, ‘Ismatullah (b. 1903), son of Rahmatullah (Makhdum) Samangani. An Afghan poet and writer born in Samangan. Having learned reading and writing from teachers in his hometown, he taught at schools of Mazar-i Sharif. He represented Samangan at the National Consultative Assembly in 1949 and 1955. He was a refined writer and poet who published his own poetical compositions, a didactic musaddas (six-hemistich verse), titled Shallaq-i ‘Ibrat (Kabul 1953); and a collection of poetry, Dard-i Dil (Kabul 1957). He also compiled a collection of proverbs, Amthal al-Tajik. His other works include: Mir’at al-Haqiqat; Qiyamat-i Sughra; Nizam-i Jami’a; Khitab ba Khilaf; Gur Mushti.
