Nadir Gulchin

Gulchin, Nader (1937-)

Vocalist performing Persian classical singing and popular songs. He began his professional career at Radio Rasht in Gilan around 1956 and later on performed on Radio Tehran. He won fame from 1960 onwards by performing compositions by the Lashgari brothers, ‘Imad Ram, Faravarz Payvar, and Humayun Khurram. Some of these compositions were performed on the Gulha-yi sahra’i and the Gulha-yi taza programmes accompanied by poems by  Hushang Ibtihaj, Malik al-Shu‘ara Bahar, Firidun Mushiri as well as Hafiz and Rudaki. His warm voice, excellent performance, and very precise musical ear made him into a specially talented vocalist, but one whose abilities  unfortunately, owing to certain circumstances, failed to attain to the expected niveau. After 1979, he ceased his musical activities on radio and television, although his earlier performances have recently been released anew. His works include three cassette albums titled Gulchin (Tehran: Ava-yi Nuvin 2004, including compositions by Humayun Khurram and arrangements by Mujtaba Mirzada).
