‘Imad Shaharyar Ghaznavi

‘Imadi Shahriyari Ghaznawi (d. 1177 or 1186), a Persian poet hailing from Shahriyar in Rayy. He was attached to the court of the Bawandid ‘Imad al-Dawla Shahriyar in Mazandaran from whom he received his nom de plume. After the death of ‘Imad al-Dawla, he departed for Rayy and entered the services of the Seljuk Tughril ibn Muhammad and composed eulogies on him, Atabk Jahan Pahlavan, and Tughril ibn Arsalan. He composed a qasida eulogizing Qutb Muzaffar ibn Ardashir ‘Ibadi, a preacher flourishing in the twelfth century, and was awarded 2,000 dinars by the preacher’s disciples. ‘Imadi traveled to Ghazni in his last years and learned Sufi teachings from Sana’i.
