Mani Shirazi

Mani Shirazi (killed in 1507/1508/1520), a painter and poet with the nom de plume Mani flourishing under Shah Isma’il I (1499-1523). He had lived on farming but late in life was well-respected by the Shah. He had mastery of calligraphy and painting as well and his name is recorded as a student of Sultan ‘Ali Mashhadi but he might have been his namesake. He finally incurred the Shah’s wrath who ordered his execution. His works include a divan of poetry.
