Nuru’llah Humayun

Nuru’llah Humayun (1907-1991), a lyric composer belonging the the generation succeeding ‘Arif, Shayda, and Jahid. His reclusive life led to his relative anonymity, though the majority of the lyrics performed in the twentieth century were composed by him. He was a poet, belletrist, and critique who held administrative offices for years. His Panj Chakama (‘Five Compositions’) has appeared but the publication of his collection of poetry is a desideratum. The lyrics Jilva-yi Gul (‘Display of Flower’), composed and sung by ‘Abd al-Husayn Shahnazi and Badi’zada respectively and the majority of the lyrics performed by the latter were composed by him.
