Ruhi Hamadani

Ruhi Hamadani (fl. 16th century), a poet flourishing under the Safavid Shah ‘Abbas I. Having made satirical poetical compositions, he lost his tongue on the orders of the Shah for his satires and lampoons. The following couplet is by him:

The heads of the martyrs of love have, in your neighborhood,

Been severed without the strike of the executioner.
