Shahindukht Hannana

Hannanih, Shahindukht (1943-1997), a poetess, lyricist, artist, and writer, and a niece of Murtaza Hannanih, the distinguished contemporary musician. She was born in Sari and as a student she showed her poetical talent. She contributed to literary periodicals appearing in Tehran. She was the editor of the poetry section of the Banuwan journal for years and her popular lyrics were broadcast on the Golha radio programs. She died of heart attack in July 1997. Two collections of her poetry, Kilid (Key) and Gulha-yi Ragia (Ragia Flowers), were published. The first volume of her well-known book, Pusht-i Darichih-ha-yi u (Behind His [or Her] Windows), including interviews with artists’ spouses, appeared in 1992, but the second volume was published in the fall of the first year after of her death. Her unpublished novel is titled Zan-i Pa’izi (Autumnal Woman).
