’Abdu’llah Ulfat

Ulfat, 'Abdullah Fatimi (1927-1991), whose nom de plume was Ulfat ("affection"), was born in Burujird. Having completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown, he departed for Tehran to further his studies, though owing to certain impediments he left his studies incomplete. Later, he found an employment at the Ministry of Post and Telegraph. He embarked upon his poetical career when he was still in high school, trying his hand at different genres, though he was more inclined toward the ghazal. His ghazals have achived a particular grace, appeal, and strength as a consequence of which he is as talented at composing ghazals. His works include: Ufuq-i Ulfat ("Horizon of Affection"), a collection of his ghazals; Mathnavi-yi Durr-i Maktum ("The Mathnavi of the Hidden Pearl"), including the biographical accounts of 13 mystics; two mathnavis entitled Khurshid u Mah ("The Sun and the Moon") and Parishan u Pidram (names of two characters, lit. "distraught" and "Peace").
